Jeff loves Zelda and has wanted to make a version for c64 for a long time. This is his latest tinkering ...

Re: CartPC - Jeff loves Zelda

Thanks for the feedback guys. :-)
Sofar it's just a bit of fooling around and learning how to pixel.
But I really love working with Cartograph PC. Makes it easy to try out ideas, that I get from time to time. ;-)

Still, I haven't forgotten the CT music! ;-)

I'm glad to hear it, really like both versions of the editor here. Of course, CartPC is easier to use because of interface, etc.

Re: CartPC - Jeff loves Zelda

The only problem I see is that you are using up a hell of a lot of chars already. Other than that, for hires, it looks absolutely awesome!  Great work!

From what Jeff said the other day, if he ever went forward with this it would probably be a screen game not a scroller. So he could swap out charsets between screens if need be

Re: CartPC - Jeff loves Zelda

Yeah. but if it was a scrolling game, I see no problem in at some points to simply switch from one screen to another (when leaving one screen).

Anyway... those roofs I did, damn... they are not easy to make look good. So I made them more simply (use less different chars) but also I think the view of the roofs now fit
the rest of the buildings better. Or what do you think? (still learning ;-)

Re: CartPC - Jeff loves Zelda

For me, the perspective on the new roof is a bit off also. It is better than the previous, which was basically top down.

I did some research and it appears your current perspective is very close to what was in some of the Zelda games?

Re: CartPC - Jeff loves Zelda

Yeah, it's not quite there  yet! Perhaps I just wanted to try to avoid the end parts of the roofs.... anyway, will keep trying, but thanks for the feedback. :-)

Re: CartPC - Jeff loves Zelda

Good progress.

I think maybe a mash-up between both roof gfx?  The second is looking good, but lacks the side bits of the first...

Re: CartPC - Jeff loves Zelda

Andy: yes... I was just suggested to make the tiles on the front of the house of same height.... right now it looks a bit like if it's an open box.... as if the roof was lifted up from the building on the backside of the building. :-)

Re: CartPC - Jeff loves Zelda

Managed to do one type of roof that I am pleased with now.
Added a few more things. The water will ofcourse be animated, when I get to that point. :-)
